The Penthouse Problem That Started It All
The first Soulfa we made began with a problem our founder, Vitória, couldn’t find a solution for.
Her 5,000-square-foot penthouse had plenty of room for an oversized sofa, but getting one inside was another story. A traditional 10-foot couch couldn’t fit through the entrance of her penthouse, and the luxury modular alternative she wanted simply did not exist.
As Charles Eames said, “Recognizing the need is the primary condition for design.” And in true Soulfa fashion, Vitória made what she couldn’t find.
She designed Soulfa as individual, fully built modular cubes that could move easily through elevators and tight spaces. Then she made it luxury! Cloud-like structured seat cushions you could sink into comfortably, soft, non-toxic performance fabrics you could actually live on, and quality construction made to last.
That penthouse problem still shapes how we build today. Soulfa remains a small-batch furniture maker, building in limited production so we can pay attention to the materials, the construction, the comfort, and all the finer details that mass production often leaves behind.

We create every Soulfa cube as an individual, complete piece of furniture. That means you can:
- Fit an oversized couch through tight turns
- Add or remove cubes as your space changes
- Reconfigure your Soulfa into different layouts
We don't ship you a flat-packed platform and ask you to finish building your luxury couch at home.
Our Kiln-Dried Hardwood Frame
Every Soulfa Cube Starts With a Solid Structure
We use kiln-dried hardwood to construct our frames, giving the foam, fabric, and cushions that come next a strong, stable foundation.
Kiln-drying removes excess moisture from the wood before the frame is built. This process:
- Guarantees superior stability
- Reduces the risk of warping, cupping, twisting, and splitting
- Eliminates pests and any fungus present inside the wood
- Creates a better surface for finishes
The result is dry, stable hardwood that gives us a more reliable material to build each Soulfa cube from.
How Soulfa Cubes Connect
Over the past 11 years, we’ve refined our proprietary clips and their placement to securely connect each Soulfa cube.
Instead of connecting the cubes from the sides, where the clips take on daily wear and tear, we connect them from the foundational base. To do that, we cut out a section underneath the hardwood base of each cube.
This helps prevent the separating, creaking, and cracking that can develop when modular connections loosen over time.
Once connected, the individual cubes stay securely together, while still allowing you to separate, move, or reconfigure your Soulfa anytime you want to.
Our High-Density Foam
More Than Six Inches of Foam Around the Frame
Once we’ve constructed the kiln-dried hardwood frame, we cover the structure with more than six inches of high-density foam.
Yes! That includes the areas you lean and lounge against. The foam wraps around the structure, so you’re not resting against a hard frame beneath a thin layer of upholstery.
We’re big on foam because it gives our Soulfa cubes:
- Generous cushioning around the hardwood structure
- Softer sides, backs, and edges where your body actually rests
- High-density support beneath the upholstery
- A substantial layer between you and the frame
Note: The foam on our couches is one of the two most expensive components of a Soulfa, alongside the fabric. We use a lot of it intentionally, choosing super resilient high-density foam for the structure and support it provides over years of everyday use.

Our new Triple-Layered™ seat cushion does exactly that.
A plush top layer that creates the soft, sink-in feeling of a cloud couch.
The center layer adds support and structure, helping the cushion hold its shape instead of collapsing or sagging with use.
A third plush layer completes the cushion, adding softness and comfort beneath the foam core.
The result is what we call extra plush comfort plus structure! A cushion you can sink into, with a high-density foam center that helps it recover and maintain its shape.

Over all that feather/down and high-density foam goes the part of your Soulfa you’ll touch every day: the fabric.
Most performance fabrics make you choose between softness and durability. We’ve spent years developing ours to ensure it’s durable and, at the same time, soft to the touch.
Our performance fabrics are up to 3x thicker and more durable than typical cloud-style alternatives.
Stain Resistance, Without the Scotchgard
We’ve engineered a performance fabric using organic and blended fibers (natural material paired with synthetic) woven with a proprietary tight-weave technique that lets liquids bead and slide off before ever setting into a stain.
That matters more than it sounds like it should. Some stain-resistant fabrics get there with Scotchgard-style treatments, which may result in serious long-term health concerns. We wanted the spill-resistance performance without the trade-off, so we built it into the weave instead of spraying it on afterward.
Our tight-weave fabric resists stains and pilling, and stands up to the way we actually live on our couches, all while staying exceptionally soft.
Washable, Changeable, Made for Real Life.
Soulfa’s covers, including the bases, are removable and machine washable.
They’re interchangeable, too, and easily so. You can change your color, refresh worn covers, or give your Soulfa an entirely new look without replacing the couch underneath.

Will a Soulfa Fit Through My Doorway or Elevator?
That’s exactly what Soulfa was designed to do. Your Soulfa arrives as individual, fully built cubes that can move separately through doorways, elevators, tight turns, and difficult-to-reach spaces before being connected inside your room.
Will the Modular Cubes Move Apart When I Sit on the Couch?
Soulfa cubes connect at the foundational base using our proprietary connection system. We’ve spent more than 11 years refining both the clips and their placement to keep individual modules securely connected during everyday use.
Can I Change My Soulfa Configuration Later?
Yes. You can separate and reconfigure your cubes whenever you want. Add or remove modules, change your layout, or adapt your Soulfa to a new space when you move.
Will the Seat Cushions Sag Over Time?
Our Triple-Layered™ seat cushion combines two layers of feather and down with a high-density foam core. The foam center adds structure and helps the cushion recover and maintain its shape while preserving the sink-in comfort of feather and down. This $200 add-on provides additional support and a more contouring feel while helping reduce sagging and the need for frequent fluffing.
What Happens If I Spill Something on My Soulfa?
We design our proprietary tight-weave performance fabric so liquids bead and slide off before they have the chance to set into a stain.
For a deeper clean, Soulfa fabric covers (including the bases) are removable and machine washable.

Do I Have to Assemble My Soulfa?
No. Every Soulfa cube arrives as an individual, fully built piece of furniture. There’s no frame to construct and no flat-packed platform to assemble. Position your cubes, connect them, and your Soulfa is ready.
What Does Soulfa’s 20-Year Warranty Cover?
All Soulfa cubes are backed by a 20-year warranty covering defects in construction or workmanship. If a covered defect occurs, we’ll repair or replace the affected product.
The warranty applies when your Soulfa is used as intended under normal residential use. It does not cover commercial use, modifications, accidents, excessive wear and tear, or damage caused by improper use.
