Where It Began

Vitória, a Portuguese immigrant who moved to the United States in 1992, arrived with a singular focus to pursue a life in fashion and design, guided by instinct, ambition, and a deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms.
By 2003, that passion had fully come to life. At a time when style icons like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Jessica Simpson defined the cultural aesthetic, their looks were everywhere yet nearly impossible to source in a pre-social media world. Vitória recognized the gap before anyone else and envisioned something entirely new.
She created an online boutique where women could effortlessly access the exact pieces they saw in magazines, sourcing from coveted, under-the-radar Los Angeles designers that were otherwise difficult to find. The concept resonated immediately, striking a chord with a generation searching for access and inspiration.
By 2005, her online fashion boutique had achieved national recognition, earning a coveted feature on Oprah's Favorite Things and solidifying her reputation as a forward-thinking founder with a natural instinct for what comes next.
“I didn’t wait for a map. I trusted my instinct, built in the unknown, and created what the world didn’t realize it was already searching for."

From Fashion to Home

By 2010, Vitória’s creative vision was evolving beyond fashion. Inspired by the relaxed, lounge-driven aesthetic of the era, she began designing her own designer pieces. Yet the relentless pace of the industry, with new collections demanded every few months, felt increasingly misaligned with her values. It was a cycle built on chasing what was next, rather than creating something enduring.
That realization marked a turning point. Vitória shifted her focus from fashion to interiors, bringing her refined eye to the homes of high-profile clients. She became deeply inspired by the effortless luxury of the world’s most exceptional hotels, spaces that are always ahead of the curve, designed to evoke a distinct feeling the moment you walk in. Where fashion was fleeting, interiors offered the opportunity to create something lasting, immersive, and deeply personal.
This perspective sparked a defining question that would shape everything that followed: what if your home carried that same energy, that same sense of escape, so you never had to leave to experience a luxury destination?
The Corner That Started Everything

In 2015, while furnishing her San Diego condo, Vitória encountered the moment that would redefine her path. The space was expansive and architectural, the kind of home that calls for presence and intention. She found the perfect sofa. A stunning thirteen-foot piece that embodied everything she envisioned. There was just one problem. No matter how they maneuvered it, it simply would not make the turn from the front door into the living room.
The only alternative was a crane, the kind of effort reserved for moving grand pianos into high-rise condos.
She could have compromised. But in a space of that scale, compromise doesn’t go unnoticed. A smaller sofa wouldn’t just feel out of place, it would diminish the entire experience of the room.
So she began searching for a modular solution. Something designed to arrive in pieces and come together seamlessly inside the home. She found one option that promised exactly that. The price reflected luxury. The quality did not.
At that moment, Vitória recognized something far greater than a personal inconvenience. There were countless homes like hers, expansive, beautifully designed spaces with no truly elevated solution to fill them. And no one had built it yet.
"If they could charge a luxury price for something that wasn't, then let us make something that truly earns it."

The Making of Soulfa

Vitória had a clear and unwavering vision of the modular cloud-style couch she wanted to bring into the world. It had to be the best. Uncompromising in comfort, exceptional in durability, and designed to elevate the way people live every day. It also had to go further. Eco-conscious and non-toxic, something truly healthy for the home. Every material, every layer, every detail had to meet that standard. There was no room for shortcuts and no tolerance for compromise. To achieve it, there was only one path forward. It had to be built entirely on her own terms. No investors. No outside influence. Just a singular vision and the discipline to execute it with precision.
She partnered with one of the most respected custom furniture manufacturers in the industry, a mentor with over forty years of experience, and launched Soulfa from a modest Public Storage unit in San Diego. The space was simple, but intentional, reflecting the brand’s humble beginnings and unwavering focus on quality. Every customer interaction became part of the process. People shared what they loved, which colors felt right, and what styles reflected life in Southern California. Vitória listened closely, using each conversation to refine and elevate the product in real time.
From there, Soulfa made its way to Los Angeles, evolving into a by-appointment-only showroom in the design district. Private, discreet, and entirely word-of-mouth, it quickly became a destination for those in the know, attracting a discerning clientele, including celebrities, who recognized something truly different.
Together, Vitória and her manufacturer developed what would become Soulfa’s iconic cloud-style couch. Within ninety days of launch, the company was already profitable, a powerful validation of a vision well-executed.
“The difference between ordinary and exceptional is the moment you refuse to compromise and keep going, even when it’s never been done and no clear path exists.”
— Vitória, Founder of Soulfa
Three Things Everyone Said Were Impossible

Vitória had watched fast fashion create, consume, and discard at an unsustainable pace, and she walked away from it because it conflicted with everything she stood for. What she discovered next was striking. Furniture followed the same pattern. Most sofas are built to last just two to three years, while the spaces they live in are designed to endure for a decade or more.
The industry had long accepted a flawed equation. You could only have two of the three. Cost-effective. Luxurious. Durable.
Vitória refused to accept that.
Soulfa became the answer no one else had the conviction to build. A modular cloud-style couch designed to adapt to any space, move effortlessly through different homes and stages of life, and remain timeless because it was never created to follow trends.
“I didn’t just raise the standard of furniture, I raised the standard of living. Soulfa is for those who refuse to settle, because how you live is always a reflection of your standard.”
— Vitoria, Founder of Soulfa
